Week Eleven

1) Identify what you personally have completed since last week

In the past week I have been working closely with a few of the members from the EMA Gala Logistics and Planning group to try and finalize the penguin banner and signs that I created for them, however the team leader isn’t a fan of the fonts that were chosen by the Art Direction team so I am currently waiting for her to let me know which fonts she wants to use. I’ve also been in touch with the Sponsorship team leader about the penguin banner and posters that I will be creating for them, but at the moment I am waiting for her to send me the all of the sponsor’s logos before I start designing either of the projects.

2) How you accomplished those tasks including any resources you used such as tutorials, meeting with group members, meeting with other groups, books, etc.

The resources that I’ve personally used in the last week were meeting up with the other graphic designers, mainly to share what we’ve worked on during the week, as well as meeting up (separately) with members from both the Sponsorship team and the EMA Gala Logistics and Planning team to discuss the various projects that I’m designing for them. Additionally, I continued to use the Adobe design programs InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator when creating the requested projects.

3) What your team has accomplished in the last week

We’ve continued to communicate with each other online via Facebook and email, but we have yet to accomplish anything together as a team due to the fact that we’re still working away at our own project requests individually.

4) The biggest difficulty in the last week

The biggest difficulty for myself in the past week was (and still is) trying to find the font(s) that the EMA Gala Logistics and Planning team leader wants to use for the penguin banner, as, like I mentioned earlier, she’s not crazy about the fonts that the Art Direction team chose. While this hasn’t really been too big of a difficulty, it is one that I feel shouldn’t exist; the Art Direction team chose the fonts that they chose for a reason and I have a feeling that they are not going to be happy about someone from another team choosing to use a different font just because they like the way it looks. I’ve tried to explain this to her a couple of times, but she still seems really adamant about using another font or two.

5) What you personally aim to achieve before next week

Before next week I hope to have the EMA penguin banner completely finalized and sent off to the printer. I would also like to receive the sponsor’s logos from the Sponsorship team so that I can begin, and hopefully finish, creating both of their project requests. In addition, I would also like to accept new project requests if there are any available.

Week Ten

1) Identify what you personally have completed since last week

Since last week I have basically finished creating one of the graphic design project requests from the EMA Gala Planning and Logistics team (another pull-up/penguin banner) and am still waiting to hear back from the team leader about the dimensions I need to use for the second project request (directional signage for the roads on the day of the awards) before I begin working on it. I also accepted, and completed, a project request for a VIP email invitation from the Conference Planning and Logistics team. Furthermore, I’m still waiting for the Sponsorship team to send me the sponsor’s logos that they need included in the penguin banner and posters that I will be creating for them.

2) How you accomplished those tasks including any resources you used such as tutorials, meeting with group members, meeting with other groups, books, etc.

One of the necessary resources used this week was meeting up in person with the other graphic designers, along with members of other various groups, to update each other on our individual progress, share ideas and opinions, and to clear up some confusion due to miscommunication. Facebook, email, text messages and phone calls were also resources that were used for communication purposes. Additionally, I also personally used the Adobe design programs InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator when creating my requested projects.

3) What your team has accomplished in the last week

Other than meeting up in person and continuing to communicate online via Facebook and email, we have not accomplished much as a team as were still working away on our own, individual project requests.

4) The biggest difficulty in the last week

In the past week the biggest difficulty (which really wasn’t that difficult at all) was the aforementioned confusion due to miscommunication. The Sponsorship team submitted a request that specified that they wanted me to work on the project for them, but it actually involves social media posts, which is something that Adam has been working on all along so we thought it made more sense that he take on the project instead. After we met up with the Sponsorship team leader and told her our thoughts, she said she was fine with the decision and there was no more confusion.

5) What you personally aim to achieve before next week

Before next week I aim to have the EMA penguin banner completely finalized and sent out to the printer. I also hope to have the dimensions for the signage along with the sponsor’s logos so I can complete those project requests and possibly accept, and even finish, another few project requests - if there are any.

Week Nine

1) Identify what you personally have completed since last week

Since last week I have made a few alterations and added the keynote speaker’s picture and name on to the second banner that I created for the Marketing and Promotions team, which has just been approved by everyone and will be sent out to the printer very soon. I have also accepted a couple of graphic design project requests both from the EMA Gala Planning and Logistics team as well as the Sponsorship team, however I’m currently waiting for further direction from both teams before I start making anything.

2) How you accomplished those tasks including any resources you used such as tutorials, meeting with group members, meeting with other groups, books, etc.

Unfortunately, this week I was unable to meet up with anyone in person but I did communicate with everyone in my group, as well as many individuals from other groups, through Facebook, email and phone calls. I also used the Adobe design Programs InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator when creating the banner.

3) What your team has accomplished in the last week

We’re still working away at our own projects individually and continuing to communicate with each other whenever we need to, but other than that we haven’t accomplished anything as a team.

4) The biggest difficulty in the last week

The biggest difficulty for me were the unnecessary, insignificant last minute changes to the banner from the Art Direction team, the Marketing and Promotions team and the Executive Directors. It felt like too many people had an opinion just for the sake of having one, when really the banner would have looked just as good without all the minute alterations that hadn’t even been an issue in the first place.

5) What you personally aim to achieve before next week

I hope to hear back from either the EMA Gala Planning and Logistics team or the Sponsorship team relatively early on in the week so I can begin working on what they need me to make, and hopefully I can have at least one of the projects completely finalized and approved.

Week Eight

1) Identify what you personally have completed since last week

Since last week I have begun, and almost completely finished, compiling the second banner for the marketing and promotions team, however I am still waiting for the host and speakers to be announced before I add their names and pictures into the designated areas on the sign.

2) How you accomplished those tasks including any resources you used such as tutorials, meeting with group members, meeting with other groups, books, etc.

The resources that I used for this week were Facebook and email, for communication purposes, along with the Adobe design programs InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop to create the banner.

3) What your team has accomplished in the last week

As I’ve mentioned in many of my previous blog posts, each of the graphic designers is working on their own project requests individually so we haven’t accomplished anything as a team other than keeping each other updated on our progress through email and Facebook.

4) The biggest difficulty in the last week

The biggest difficulty for this week was waiting as patiently as possible to receive the information that I need to finalize the banner.

5) What you personally aim to achieve before next week

Hopefully before next week the host and speakers will be announced so that I can finish the banner and accept another project request, if there are any available.
